John Carlson, President of Carlson Wealth Management, has worked as a financial adviser for almost a quarter of a century.  His experience spans both major wall street firms including those of PaineWebber (now UBS Securities) and Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley Smith Barney), as well as, experience with a major national bank at Wells Fargo.  In 2010, he decided to take his years of market experience culminating in the development of a proprietary model to manage portfolio risk and move into private practice forming Carlson Wealth Management (CWM).


Mr. Carlson joined forces with one of the country’s top ranked independent broker-dealers, San Diego based Independent Financial Group, LLC a registered broker/dealer and member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) where he operates Carlson Wealth Management both in the securities brokerage business as a registered representative, and in the investment advisory business as an investment adviser representative. He holds securities licenses Series 7, 63 and 65 along with a CA Insurance license for Life and Disability Insurance.


Business Objective

Although Carlson Wealth Management provides a broad offering of standard investment products and services found at most major wall street firms, the primary focus is on Wealth Management where Mr. Carlson provides discretionary, fee based investment management designed to help clients participate in rising markets, but protect principal during falling markets. Carlson Wealth Management also operates in the insurance business as John Carlson is licensed as an insurance agent and provides both fixed and variable life insurance products for his clientele.  CA Insurance License #0629278.

Carlson Wealth Management, through its broker dealer affiliation with Independent Financial Group, employs the services of Envestnet a leading provider of integrated portfolio, practice management and reporting solutions to financial advisors and institutions.  Their open architecture platform encompasses a broad range of institutional-quality research, investment products and advisory resources.  Since their beginnings in 1999, Envestnet has grown into one of the largest providers of wealth management solutions to independent financial advisors today.
